Our next meeting is coming up in June and its a big one. It will be our one year anniversary and we are returning to Ramapo, where it all began. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided compliments of Ramapo College. Here is what we have planned:

The Web and the Law

Mr. Christie concentrates his practice in the areas of Information Technology, Intellectual Property, White-Collar Criminal Defense and Complex Commercial Litigation.

He provides counseling to companies on protecting the confidentiality, availability and integrity of their proprietary business information and computer networks and on complying with information security and electronic privacy laws and regulations. Mr. Christie further assists companies in developing computer network incident response plans, providing guidance when corporate clients have experienced network security breaches and violations of network policies and procedures, conducting internal investigations of such breaches and violations, and litigating against those responsible for network intrusions.

Mr. Christie also provides guidance to Internet service providers and other electronic communication service providers on protecting themselves against individuals who broadcast spam; disseminate viruses, spyware and other malicious code; obtain unauthorized access to e-mail; misappropriate bandwidth; and otherwise violate terms of service. He likewise assists such service providers in understanding and satisfying their legal and regulatory obligations under federal law, including compelled disclosure of e-mail content, transactional records and subscriber information.

Furthermore, Mr. Christie helps clients with registration, valuation, licensing, assignment, sale and other transactional issues pertaining to copyrights, trademarks, patents and trade secrets. Correspondingly, he actively litigates all manner of copyright, trademark and patent infringement cases; violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act; and matters involving misappropriation of trade secrets. Mr. Christie actively pursues cybersquatters and individuals who seek a commercial advantage by registering and using domain names that correspond to trademarks of corporate clients. He also tracks down, identifies, and initiates legal proceedings against companies and individuals engaging in product counterfeiting and product diversion.

Prior to joining McCarter & English, Mr. Christie served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey where he headed the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Section of that office.

He was lead prosecutor in a major undercover investigation targeting Shadowcrew, an international criminal organization of approximately 4,000 members dedicated to malicious computer hacking, Internet fraud schemes, credit card fraud and identity theft that concluded with the filing of criminal charges against 27 senior Shadowcrew members in the U.S. and the arrest of six members in four foreign countries. Mr.

Christie also successfully investigated and prosecuted numerous cases of Internet fraud, telecommunications fraud, dissemination of computer viruses, computer extortion, theft of electronic data, malicious computer hacking as well as a wide variety of criminal copyright, trademark and trade secret theft cases.

Mr. Christie has been named one of the Super Lawyers for 2005 and 2006. He is also listed in the 2006 and 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America .

Web Usability

Mark DiSciullo
Director of Usability Services MISI Company

Mark DiSciullo has been working as a user-centered design professional for over 15 years. He recently joined MISI Company, but prior to that, he worked at TD Waterhouse (now TD Ameritrade) where he served as the FVP of Usability Design. There he instituted a User-Centered Design process into the SDLC and lead the successful redesigns of all of the firms most profitable product channels, the Retail, and Institutional websites along with the entire Active Trader "TradeCentral" suite of tools.

In other roles at TD Waterhouse, Mark and his team played a large part in the interface design and development of one of the world's first online retail trading systems. This system is still in use today with various domestic and international clients such as TD Ameritrade, TD Bank, Legg Mason, Royal Bank of Canada, E*Trade (Europe), CIBC and Citi-Kah-Wa Bank (Hong Kong).

Prior to TD Waterhouse, Mark was a Senior Partner and Art Director at Kandu Interactive which produced immersive interactive multimedia applications for clients such as Sony ( Sony Wonder Museum ), Nike, Pfizer, Searle, IBM, Kodak and the Ellis Island Foundation.

As director of Usability Services at MISI, Mark ensures applications are designed for Fortune 500 companies from a user centric perspective. Using various usability testing activities and data gathering techniques, the team gathers requirements directly from end users of the systems or websites and incorporates the findings into the design process.

Mark graduated from The College of New Jersey (Formally Trenton State) with a BFA in Visual Design. He has also earned the title of a Certified Usability Analyst from Human Factors International Inc.

Development Executive

Lester Ray is an Apple Development Executive for the Northeast Area. His current areas of focus are colleges of education, and consulting on one to one projects. He has been referred to as a “Pedagogical Engineer serving the Digital Challenged”.

In the recent past, he worked in the South Brunswick School District, NJ, serving as their Director of Technology. Before that, he supervised the Science, Industrial Arts, Business, Library, and the Technology Education Departments, but not all at the same time. Before becoming a Supervisor, he taught Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at the High School Level. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Biology, and a Master of Arts of Teaching. And some day will finish his PhD.

David Aponovich brings 12 years of journalism experience to Ektron, including seven years covering the business and technology sectors.

Prior to joining Ektron in November 2003, David was Senior Web Editor at Aberdeen Group, a Boston-based provider of IT market research, market positioning and consulting services. He previously served as an online editor at INT Media Group, which included writing for an online source for chief information officers that covered the business adoption of technology. David also spent several years as a business editor and reporter at The Telegraph, a daily newspaper in Nashua , New Hampshire .

David graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in English.

 

The Recruiting 2.0 Revolution

Adrienne Bartlett helps colleges coordinate web-based initiatives  such as online chats, student blogs and podcasts to drive interactive  recruiting efforts.  Prior to joining TargetX in 2005, Adrienne was  an Assistant Director of Admissions at The University of Scranton in  Northeastern Pennsylvania.  As an admissions officer for four years,  she managed marketing communications efforts and developed a  comprehensive "campus visit experience" program.

Adrienne holds a bachelor's degree in International Business and  spent a year studying in Beijing, China.  She received her MBA with a  concentration in Marketing from The University of Scranton in 2004.
